Release Notes

This Installation Guide will guide you through the steps required to install VBOX Test Suite.

IMPORTANT – Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 or newer is required (must be compatible with .Net Framework 4.7.1)

• Improved styling.
• Ability to select Map Source in Options.
  • Bing, Google or Amap are the available Map Sources. Bing is the default. Amap is popular in China.
• Increased maximum zoom level when using satellite image.

• A Gradient channel is now available.
  
  Gradient is calculated from (Vertical Velocity/Speed)*100.

• CSV export now includes the trigger channel.

• Fixed an issue that prevented EURO NCAP CCRs tests from running without a target speed channel.
• Fixed an issue loading files with Zero Brake Force Channel selected.
• Fixed missing data values for elapsed time in CSV  export.
• Fixed an issue with the centreline deviation calculation on runs that crossed UTC midnight.
• Fixed performance issue when loading files with Mining plugins.
• Fixed an issue that prevented certain interim conditions from displaying a value in .VBB files with CAN data.
• Fixed intermittent issue that prevented CAN data from showing in a chart gauge.

Version 1.1 of the VBOX 4 Firmware is now available to all existing customers.

Version 1.1 introduces powerful new features and enhancements designed to make testing easier, faster, and more versatile.

What’s New in v1.1

• CAN FD channels can now be logged alongside full bus logging:
  • Display CAN FD channels on MFD Touch and VBOX Test Suite.
  • Log CAN FD channels directly to the VBB file.
  • 32 channels available on CAN FD 1 and CAN FD 2 (64 total).
  • Log CAN FD to VBB and ASC file simultaneously.
• Humanetics Ethernet output:
  • Ethernet connection directly to the robot interface.
• The ADAS Audio Sensor can now be connected as a Racelogic Module via the RLCAN port on VBOX 4:
  • Recognised as a module for configuration in VBOX Setup.
• Built-in support and calibration for the Wireless Wheel Speed Sensors:
  • Sensors can now be calibrated directly in VBOX Setup.
  • Connect the Wireless Wheel Speed Sensors as Racelogic Module via the RLCAN port on VBOX 4.
• Pass-by Noise testing updates:
  • Now with track temperature capture.

• Dooring
  • Assists you in completing and analysing a "Dooring" scenario according to the 2023 Euro NCAP protocol.

• Driver Status Monitoring (DSM)
  • Two new plugins have been released that assist you in completing both short and long distraction Driver Status Monitoring tests.
    You can find more information here.

Features:

• Added functionality to stop tests from restarting erroneously. You can now configure the test to ignore trigger signals that occur during a set number of seconds after the first trigger.

Bug Fixes:

• Fixed an issue that presented when using interim conditions, where some runs would erroneously show the start speed as 0.

Features:

• Added "Yaw angle deviation" to test results to comply with the R13h requirements.

Bug Fixes:

• Fixed an issue where the "speed=0" interim condition was not populated in files generated by VBOX Touch units.

Features:

• Added gravitational coefficient to the final force value.
• Modified the Mass field in the session info to include "M_veh" and "M_te" as per the latest regulations
• Added the option to only calibrate the Wind Speed when a trigger is pressed.

Features:

• Added the f0 and f2 values as columns in the test results.

Features:

• Added the ability to import .spl files as gates.

Bug Fixes:

• Fixed an issue where "lowest entry speed at half peak Lat Acc" would show as 0 in the report.
• Fixed an issue to stop lateral acceleration figures reporting as "NaN".
• Fixed issue to correctly interpolate the minimum lateral acceleration for the End of Test.

Features:

• Software will no longer crash in Online mode when offline data is present too.

• Online connection is now established more quickly with VBOX 4 and VBOX 3i with firmware version 3.0 and later. 
• You can now rename any plugin tab by double-clicking on the tab.
• To avoid confusion with channels created by VBOX Test Suite, we have changed the naming convention of the lateral and longitudinal acceleration channels calculated by the VBOX.
• CAN channels selected to be displayed on the graph will now be retained when loading another file that contains the same channels.
• You can now set the software to automatically save a .vbo file whenever an online session is stopped. You can enable/disable this option in the Options menu (Home -> Settings Section -> Options) and specify a file name prefix and location for these files.

• Elapsed time no longer increases during a 'cut' section of a file.
• When loading a VBOX 4 file, the CAN FD group now reflects the name given to that bus in VBOX Setup.
• You can now customise the line thickness of the position trace in the map window.
• You can now clear all configured gates with one button in all tests that allow the setting of gates.
• Where you could previously add 2 channels to a single Chart gauge in the Dashboard, you can now specify a custom Y-axis.
• The Recent Files and Recent Settings options in the File menu will now show the relevant file location when you hover over a file.
• You can now add notes to all test results areas by adding the Notes column and typing directly in a cell. 
• You will now be warned when you remove a gate that is currently used by a test configuration.
• The online chart gauge scale can now be adjusted as follows:
  • Best fit Y-axis -> Double-click on the Y-axis.
  • Zoom X-axis -> Mouse wheel.
  • Zoom Y-axis -> Mouse wheel when the mouse pointer is on the Y-axis.
  • Reset scale -> Right-click on the chart and select Reset.

    Note: If a custom scale was applied to the gauge in the gauge settings, the reset functionality will use the custom scale as the default.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue with the handling of the PC's region settings when exporting .csv files.
• Fixed an error that caused the centreline deviation to report incorrectly.
• Fixed an issue that stopped the centreline deviation from being calculated for 25 Hz files.
• Fixed an issue with 500Hz files so they now end at the correct point.
• Fixed an issue where files recorded on a Performance Box Touch were not correctly identified. Previously, they were shown as VBOX Touch Files.
• Fixed an issue that caused the Software to sometimes crash when the chart gauge was resized.
• Fixed an issue where interim conditions were not reported correctly when using large distance values.
• Fixed an issue with the handling of GPS dropouts in KML files.
• Improved map zoom.
• Fixed an issue where calculated result columns were not shown in the Reports for Brake, Accel, Decel, and Custom tests
• Fixed an issue where MFDD results were not correctly calculated in VBOX Touch Files.
• Fixed an issue in the R78 test plugin that prevented VBOX Test Suite from loading a .VBB file when the Zero Brake Force Channel option was ticked.

This release has added support for the new VBOX 4 data logger. VBOX 4 combines high-accuracy data logging with ease of use. It seamlessly integrates into any advanced automotive test setup to deliver a complete test solution.

The VBOX 4 range facilitates full CAN bus logging from 2 separate CAN FD buses to an ASC file saved on the SD card. The CAN log file is time-synchronised to the VBOX data file (VBB) logged by VBOX 4.

This provides benefits such as:

• No need to configure VBOX CAN input in advance.
• No limit on the number of CAN signals that can be logged.
• All CAN data is logged – no log rate limit.

When you open a VBB file that has an accompanying ASC file, VBOX Test Suite will open a dialogue box where you can map the CAN signals:

In the example above, you can see that we have logged 2 CAN buses: CAN FD 1 and CAN FD 2.

1. Import signals by selecting a recently used dbc file from the drop down or click the browse button (…) to navigate to the location of the required file.
2. Tick the Import All tick box to import all signals on the bus or use the Choose Signals button to select the specific signals you want to import.
3. Click OK to close the popup and load the signals in the background.  
4. The selected CAN signals will be available for analysis as soon as they have been loaded.

You can now use IF statements in a maths channel:

• The Euro NCAP CCRs test can now be performed to a static target.
  Previously this required a VBOX target.
• You can now set Test Speed in R51 Pass-By Noise test.
• Improved maths channel calculation performance.
• Improved reconnection functionality when a unit is power-cycled while connected online.
• Simplified start on trigger option in the Accel Test.
• Improved ability to drag vehicle points in Vehicle Overlay.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed bug where VBOX Test Suite switched off online channels that it wasn't using as part of the chart, test conditions or dashboard.
  This is based on customer feedback reporting that when using VBOX 3i V3 firmware,  exported files did not contain all the expected channels.
• Fixed intermittent online issue that prevented the calibration step from completing in some tests.
• Fixed bug where coastdown runs were not always detected when the test was configured with  Requires Trigger.
• Fixed bug where Refresh Channel Names feature was not working correctly with the latest VBOX 3i firmware.
  This feature is mainly used during Pass-By Noise tests. 
• Fixed bug where gates were oriented incorrectly in some situations (most noticeable in low speed files), such as Mining Corner Analysis.
• Fixed bug where heading was always showing north on VBSS25.
• Fixed bug where calibrated wheel speed channels could not be added to the chart.
• Fixed crashing issue when setting Start of Test Temperature channel in Online mode in Brake Trigger, Speed & R78 tests.
• Fixed occasional crashing issues in online mode.
• Fixed bug where interim results did not show values for channels with a smoothing level applied.
• Fixed certain maths channel 'functions’ in scenarios where the maths channel depended on another maths channel.
• Fixed bug where VBO files longer than 2 days were showing as a scatter plot instead of a line on the chart.

This release has added support for 2 new products:

• The VBOX 100 Hz Speed Sensors (VBSS100-V5)
• The VBOX 25 Hz Speed Sensors (VBSS25-V2)

Improved integration with VBOX 3i 

The VBOX 3i v3 firmware is now available. It offers several improvements, such as flexible ADAS Setup, increased channel logging capacity, and improved integration with VBOX Test Suite. You can find more information here.

This release has a new Dooring Test that has been added to meet the Euro NCAP Dooring scenario in the VRU active safety assessment.

We also have a beta version of our Euro NCAP Driver Status Monitoring (DSM) Test – this isn’t included in the installation, but we can arrange a demonstration upon request (email vbox@racelogic.co.uk).

You can now auto-scale the Y-axis in a workspace window by double-clicking directly on the Y-axis on that specific graph. The graph will then change into a "best fit" scale.

In response to customer feedback, the Heat Map feature on the Map ribbon tab now adds colour to the map to highlight a channel value at that location. You can, for example, choose to show a heat map of Speed or X Accel. If you select one or more runs, the heat map colour is derived from data of the selected run(s). Otherwise, the colour is derived from the whole session. If there are multiple data points in the same area, the points will be averaged.

After you have measured a distance on the map with the Measure tool, you can drag the ends of the line to change the start/end point. This gives you the ability to zoom in and fine-tune the start/end point. 

• You can now cancel the processing of results. This is useful for situations where the test conditions are not right and the process of generating the results takes a long time. 
• The software now supports a larger number of points and generates the output file quicker when exporting to KML file for Google Earth. 
• Gates will now default to the last entered gate width, rather than to 20 m. 
• You can now omit wind direction calibration in J2263 Coastdown tests.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a bug that was reported by a customer who was experiencing crashes when conducting brake stops.
• Fixed a bug that causes the app to crash when exiting the test configuration while online.
• Fixed a bug with tests that included a ‘Calibration’ step failing to complete with V3 firmware.
• Fixed a bug preventing VBOX Test Suite from loading (in rare cases where the log file got very large).
• Fixed a bug with VBOX Test Suite not reconnecting to a VBOX if the VBOX was coldstarted while being online.
• Fixed the incorrect first sample value in the Rate of Change maths channels.
• Fixed a bug with maths channels calculated from other maths channels sometimes returning no value.
• Fixed a calculation bug in the J2263 Coastdown report (in some situations when using Split Runs.)
• Fixed a bug with mining load/dump ‘regions’ that were reverting to 0_0 lat/long upon reload.
• Fixed a bug with the Loaded state calculated in TxPH in mining, that was not being reflected in the Corner Analysis plugin.
• Fixed a bug with interim results that sometimes returned duplicate columns with blank results.
• Fixed a bug with not loading files exported from VBOX Test Suite with German language settings.
• Fixed a bug where data for channels including underscores ("_") did not show in the Separate Table of the plugin results section.
• Fixed a bug where exported gate names weren’t being retained when reimporting.
• Fixed a bug where VBOX Touch trigger stop distance was not correctly calculated for very low-speed brake stops (i.e. 6 km/h).
• Fixed a bug where the Speed at the Start of Test was sometimes reported as 0.
• Fixed a bug where Save As .vbo with German regional settings could result in incorrect values upon reload.
• Fixed a bug that caused transitioning issues for the vehicle overlay heading from 360 to 0 degrees.
• Fixed a bug causing accidental resets when dragging left on the chart by increasing the threshold for Reset Zoom.
• Fixed a bug where the mouse wheel did not work as expected after using Alt + arrows to navigate through the graph.
• Fixed a bug that caused occasional crashes when using online mode and changing test conditions or during calibration.
• Fixed a rare bug where result columns could show duplicate values in GTR15.
• Added a scroll bar to prevent vehicle overlay going off screen on displays with lower resolution.
• Fixed a bug with ‘Refresh Channel Names’ that could affect ‘Pass by Noise’ tests with V3 firmware.

• Park Assist distance and closest measurements were sometimes reporting 0 instead of actual value.
• Improved message to clarify which channels are required by VBOX Test Suite when 32 CAN channel limit is exceeded (VB3i ADAS/V3 firmware only).

• Added the ability to load a Vehicle Overlay from a VBC file.
• List of ports for Online connection only shows ports that can be connected to (hides Bluetooth ports that are for outgoing connections).
• Added the ability to hide the position of the subject vehicle when viewing a target vehicle.
• Added extensive information about the settings of the unit that recorded the currently open VBB file in the File Information option.
• Improved online connection and re-connection.

• Analogue/Digital channel values reverted to default names instead of names configured in VBOX Setup.
• Test did not always start on AD channels.
• In some situations, the AD/CAN channel values were not updated until a test has been started.
• An issue with the Cut feature when x-axis was set to elapsed time.
• Gauges did not update after the unit was power cycled.
• The software sometimes crashed when Test Setup was exited.
• The stacked chart horizontal separator was occasionally not visible.
• The gate crossed marker was only displayed on the chart for one file when multiple files were loaded.
• An issue with installing screen capture has been resolved.
• Stability improvements.
• Park Assist
  • Not all points calculated until the Start button was pressed.
  • Park Assist was not producing results when used with single-antenna units and external IMU as opposed to dual-antenna units.
  • The software sometimes crashed when Test Setup was exited.
• Coastdown
  • An issue with Coastdown run direction detection when the session crosses UTC midnight.
  • Coastdown GTR 15 exception fixed.
  • Coastdown SAE J2263 - bug prevented a test from being started in some situations.

• Fixed issue preventing analogue channels and CAN channels from appearing when some unit types connect online.
• Fixed incorrect test distance when crossing midnight.
• Added a warning message when the Bluetooth connection is lost.
• Made Distance to Line measurements use ‘true heading’ with vbb files.
• Fixed the Park Assist ‘distance to entrance point’ calculation.

VBOX 3i ADAS features a multi-constellation, dual-frequency GNSS receiver that delivers robust RTK accuracy. It has been designed to provide flexible and intuitive test configuration options exclusively for ADAS testing.

• The new VBOX 3iSDR.

The VBOX 3iS Dual Antenna RTK is a compact GNSS-aided inertial navigation system (INS) with Ethernet robot connectivity and the ability to utilise wheel speed data from a vehicle’s CAN bus.

• VBB files
  • ‘VBB’ binary log files are created by VB3i (V3 firmware) and VB3i ADAS.
• The new 25 Hz VBOX Speed Sensor (VBSS25).
• The new VBOX IISX-V3.
• Channels are now listed in ‘groups’, with the ability to search by channel name:

Channel groups may be collapsed or expanded by using the arrows next to the group name.

All groups may be collapsed or expanded simultaneously using the icon that appears next to the Search bar at the top of the channel list.

• The position of VBOX subject and target(s) is now visible on the map in both online and offline modes:

• ADAS elements now displayed on map if present in VBB file:

• Lines (i.e. lane edges)
• Static Targets
• Sign Posts

ADAS elements can be hidden or recoloured in the ‘Path/Outline’ area on the ‘map’ ribbon tab.

• When you are in online mode with VB3i (V3 firmware) and VB3i ADAS, any configured channel can be selected and included in the VBOX serial output without the need to use VBOX Setup.

• VBOX Test Suite uses only ‘FIPS compliant’ encryption algorithms.

• Video is now available in ‘Custom Test’.

  • Previously, the video could only be seen in ‘Workspace’.

• ‘Cut’ feature can now be used when multiple files are open – open files will be cut simultaneously.

• Double-clicking on an ‘interim result’ column cell now sets the cursor to that location in the chart. 

• File Info for VBB files is available in the File menu.

  • This information includes diagnostics data and lets you add a custom scale and offset to the logged channels.

• Coastdown GTR15 plugin improvements, including:
  • Optimized report to reduce width
  • Added ‘Overlapping Judgement’ validation
  • Prevent blank columns in the Excel export
  • Prevent merged cells appearing in results tables when output to Excel
  • Include dates within the report header
  • Allow more data to fit on the page
• R51 Pass-By Noise - added End Line Offset configuration option.
  • This is to allow the test to end after the end line.
• Park Assist
  • Added extra channels that compute the angle difference between the body heading of the vehicle and the parking lines.
  • Performance of live map improved.
• Amendments to the Coastdown SAE J2263 plugin
  • It will adhere to recent regulation changes to reduce wind speed tolerances.

• Performance improvements for ‘map’ and ‘dashboard’ when in online mode.

  • This is to reduce the likelihood of UI lag when you are running long tests.

• Chart display improvements for data that crosses UTC midnight or is more than 24 hours long.

• The latest VB3i drivers are now available via Windows Update

Note: If you notice that dashboard gauges are updating in bursts rather than smoothly, check the following:

1. Open Device Manager.
2. Expand Ports.
3. Click Properties on the VB3i COM port.
4. Click Port Settings.
5. Click  Advanced.
6. Make sure that the Latency Timer is set to 2.

• Time Events can be marked on the chart and used in test conditions.
• You can save .vbb files as .vbo files.
  • The Save As feature in the File menu allows you to save a loaded .vbb file out as a .vbo file. This is useful if you need to convert a .vbb file to a .vbo file.

• Issues when accessing online mode on the Windows 7 operating system.
• Loading a .vbc lane file with 3 points causing the lane to jump on the map.
• Save to .vbo function now informs you if the disk is full.
• Zoom and cursor position was lost after changing smoothing when in a Test Plugin.
• Interim results were incorrect when crossing UTC time midnight for Custom Tests.
• Brake Test - an issue with Corrected Distance for when the end speed is not 0 has been fixed.

This version of the VBOX Test Suite Software includes some significant updates, a new test plugin and bug fixes.
 

• VBOX Test Suite Software can be downloaded here, if 'Automatically check for updates' is selected within the software, it will automatically detect the update when a valid internet link is detected and prompt you to download.

Many of the changes have been made as a direct result of customer feedback requesting new features. Some changes have been made to fix bugs and other issues found during testing.

Racelogic strongly recommend that all users update to the latest software release to take advantage of the new features and benefit from the improved stability.

Note: This software version is considered pre-release. It has been tested to ensure any new functionality or bug fix has been implemented correctly, but has not yet completed a full testing cycle and sign off – there may still be other bugs in this version!

Do not use beta versions when performing critical tests unless a problem with a release version prevents you from completing the required tests satisfactorily.

• Support added for online connection to VBOX Sigma - our new low cost RTK data logger.
• Support added for VBOX Touch online connection. 
• Frequency Distribution analysis - test results can now be further analysed to see distance or time spent within a channel value range, or how often the channel was within a value range. More information on this can be found here.

• Wheel Slip channels added to Custom Test.
• Recent files list now shows full file path as a tooltip.
• 'Time since last run' can now include or ignore aborted runs.
• Report columns for Test Time, Distance, Start Speed, End Speed & Average accel use decimal places as configured in Options.
• R41 test now usable with a larger range of PMR values.
• UNR79 tests now have smoothing on Lateral Acceleration due to regulation change.
• Interim results now available on UNR79 tests.
• R117 Pass-By Noise tests can now be run in a single direction. More information on this can be found here.
• Elapsed distance accuracy improved by counting start of movement from 0.5 km/h rather than 0.8 km/h.

• 1ft rollout accuracy improvement.
• Map Gates and Scale flickering when online.
• Zoom and cursor position lost after changing smoothing when in Workspace.
• Software crash when loading in a VBO file exported from a VBTS session when the session had been 'paused'.
• Certain MFDD values could cause VBTS to freeze.
• Exception given if no heading data present during brake test.
• When exporting test results, 'Time/Distance since last run' column values are always zero.
• Exception when setting gate too close to end of movement.
• UNR79 lane cross not reported correctly when no vehicle shape/overlay defined.
• After renaming a session (by clicking on the tab in test results) that session name is not being reflected on reports.
• R117 Pass-By Noise - changing tyre class wasn't automatically updating results.
• Maths channels that were copied & pasted did not retain formatting.
• 'Saving VBO file session, Please try again after a few seconds' preventing the software from being closed.
• With 'refresh channel names' unticked, VBTS could freeze when connecting to unit.
• VBTS now more tolerant of missing or corrupted data.
• Reset on Start Condition advanced test configuration feature was not working correctly in some situations.

• R139 Brake Assist, Category B (beta) - The test allows the user to carry out a brake assist test in accordance with the R139 regulation. Test guide available here.

• Run Graph now displays an interpolated point for the start and the end of the run for a given channel. This helps to make it clear when viewing the graph what the start of run and end of run values were for that channel. More information is available here.
• Measure Tool now interpolates the start and end of the range. Previously, the measure tool provided measurements from the first sample to the last sample within the range only. More information is available here.
• End of Session condition now available in Custom Test plugin. This allows a test to be configured, for example, to start immediately and then stop at the end of the file. More information is available here.
• New ‘Reset on start condition’ option within a Brake 'Trigger' test. This allows the test reset condition to be disabled, so the test will always start on the first trigger. More information is available here.
  
  
   
• It is now possible to left-click and drag to select or hold control to multi-select Test Result cells. This allows data to be copied from more easily. More information is available here.
  
  
   
• Session Colour is now displayed within the File List ribbon drop-down menu on the Home tab. More information is available here.
• Gauge Test channel selection organised by source of channel data – i.e. test column gauges, count down gauges, default gauges and test plugin specific gauges. More information is available here.
• UNR79 Lane Keep - distance to lane computations now work when just one lane is loaded.
• New Release Notes section within the File Menu detailing information such as new plugins, new features and bug fixes in relation to the current Software version. Release notes can also be accessed next to the software version within the About Menu. More information is available here.
• It is now possible to Expand and Collapse Conditions within Test Settings.
• Dashboard no longer rearranges gauges automatically. Instead, the user has the option to zoom in and out depending on available space using the mouse wheel or zoom buttons on the ribbon. More information is available here.
• Other Dashboard improvements to include grid now being hidden and alignment increments being reduced, angular meter avoids wasted margins - and so renders much better when sized small, and new 'Dashboard Update Rate' available in options.
• Custom Test now allows a test to be started when a channel value >= a given value. Previously a test could only be started when a specified value was crossed.
• Lap Timing plugin (beta) - perform lap analysis for driving around a circuit. Also allows remote data connection for live analysis in conjunction with SimPack.
• Improved support for VBOX Touch data files.
• R51 Pass By Noise wide open throttle result column between PP' line and BB' Line.
• R51 Pass By Noise ability to set engine location.

Many of the changes have been made as a direct result of customer feedback requesting new features. Some changes have been made to fix bugs and other issues found during testing.
