Creating a Static Scenario

Updated on Mar 4, 2026

A static scenario is useful in testing a GNSS receiver's ability to obtain satellite lock in predetermined locations.

  1. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
  2. Connect the security dongle to your computer.  Wait for the dongle to activate and the light on it to become red.
  3. Open the SatGen 4 software.
  1. Make sure that Map Mode is selected on the toolbar.
  2. Navigate to your start location by entering coordinates, an address or a place name in the Location Search bar.
  3. Left-click on the map to set the waypoint in the required location.

When you have added a single waypoint to the map, SatGen 4 will change to static scenario mode.

  4. Go to the Route Options.
  5. Click the ... button next to the waypoint and click Edit Waypoint.

This will open the Waypoint tab with the settings for the selected waypoint.

  6. Check that the settings are correct for your scenario.
  7. You can change the length of the scenario by using the arrow buttons next to the box to increase/decrease the value or by clicking in the Scenario Length value box and entering the value directly.

Once you are satisfied with your customized scenario, click on the Create tab to specify the output options for your scenario.

  1. Set the format to correspond with the LabSat unit you want to use to replay the scenario.
  2. Choose a file save location and file name.
  3. You can also select available constellations and frequencies in the scenario, as well as the scenario quantisation and hardware attenuation.

When you are happy with the configuration of the output format, click the Create file button to make SatGen generate the GNSS scenario. If you need to create multiple scenarios and simulations, we recommend that you use the queue. Click on the Add to queue button to make SatGen send the file to the generation queue and pause the generation until you have finished configuring all your scenarios.

The file will be created and saved in the relevant directory.
