Using LabSat 4 with Network Attached Storage Devices

Updated on Mar 4, 2026

In addition to recording to and replaying from the internal SSD and USB devices, you can use Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices with LabSat 4 to transfer and replay scenario files.

  • Gigabit network connection to the NAS device.
  • Compatible size of files to be replayed:
    • Internal LAN (LAN1) - Maximum rate is 85 MB/s.
    • USB Ethernet (LAN2) - Maximum rate is 240 MB/s.
  1. Set up the NAS device as required based on the NAS device manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Create a new shared folder as per the NAS device manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Connect the LabSat unit to the shared folder on the NAS device.
3.1 Open the Web Server for your LabSat 4.
3.2 Open the System Setup menu.
3.3 Locate the Network Mounts section and click on the Add new button.
3.4 Enter the relevant information in the Add new network connection pop-up and click on the OK button.
    Name

Use a meaningful name for the connection, for example, MyNAS.

You cannot use spaces in the name.

    Server

Enter the IP address of the NAS device and the name of the shared folder that you want to connect to.
The IP address will change depending on the network settings.

    Example: 192.168.0.48/LabSatNAS
Username Enter the username for the NAS server you want to connect to.
Password Enter the password for the NAS server you want to connect to.

    SMB/CIFS or NFS

Select the appropriate configuration for your NAS.

If you select NFS the Username and Password fields will be disabled as they are not compatible.

    Notes:

    • If the NAS device is not account-protected, you can leave the username and password empty.
    • If you are setting a password, it must not contain any spaces or any of the following special characters: %&$'`<>\"|
3.5 Click on the Connected toggle switch for the new NFS mount to enable the connection.

As you can access the storage on the NAS device directly via the Front Panel Display, you can replay scenarios directly from the NAS device.

  1. From the File Selection screen, use the Up arrow button to navigate to the Back option.
  2. Press OK with this option highlighted to open the Directory Selection screen.
  3. Find the NAS directory and press OK to select it.

This will take you to the File Selection screen for the NAS.

  4. Use the Up and Down arrows to navigate to the relevant file.
  5. Press the Play button to start replaying the highlighted file.

As you can access the storage on the NAS device directly via the LabSat 4 Web Server, you can replay scenarios directly from the NAS device.

There are several methods available to access NAS storage for data transfer. These include using Windows File Explorer, a USB caddy, or the NAS web interface (if supported by the specific NAS drive in use), or copying data directly from the LabSat 4 front panel.

  • To access the NAS web interface, enter the NAS IP address into a web browser.
  • To view the NAS storage in Windows File Explorer, type \\ followed by the NAS IP address in the address bar.
  • To use a USB caddy, remove the internal SSD from the LabSat 4 unit, insert it into the caddy, and connect the caddy to the NAS device to transfer files.
  • To copy files directly from the LabSat 4 SSD to a connected NAS drive, follow the steps here.

For further information on transfer methods supported by your NAS, please follow your NAS supplier's instructions for transferring data.
