In addition to recording to and replaying from the internal SSD and replaying from Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, you can use an external USB unit to record, replay and transfer scenario files to LabSat 4.
- A USB 3.0 device with ext4 format.
- If replaying, valid LS4 or LS3W files for replaying.
- A fast USB Drive, ideally an SSD.
Notes:
- A slower USB drive will affect the record/replay at certain configurations. If the current configuration is incompatible with the speed of the drive, the unit will show a Buffer Underflow or Buffer Overflow warning on the display and beep to attract your attention.
- The buffer time will be recorded in the scenario .ini file.
- The warning will remain on the display until you stop the recording.
- In the case of Buffer Underflow, the replay action will stop as soon as the unit discovers that the media is too slow to replay the file.
- Connect the USB drive to the USB connector on the rear panel of LabSat 4.
- From the File Selection screen, use the Up arrow to navigate to the Back option.
- Press OK with this option highlighted to open the Directory Selection screen.

If you are using the supplied SSD and USB to SATA cable (or an equivalent USB drive) connected via the USB connector on the rear panel of LabSat 4, you can find more information about the configuration limitations here.
If you are using a different USB drive, you will need to note the speed, media state, etc. to make sure that the set configuration is valid for your USB device. If you try to record or replay with an invalid configuration, LabSat 4 will provide a buffer warning as described above.
You can connect to the LabSat 4 Web Server or access the demo version of the LabSat 4 Web Server to check your configuration. The Frequency Setup Menu has a record rate usage bar that will illustrate the used data rate compared to the available data rate based on your current configuration. It will display a warning if your configuration is invalid.
