How to View the NMEA Output From LabSat 4 During Relpay

LabSat 4 has an internal GNSS receiver that gives it the ability to display the available satellites on its GNSS monitor. Additionally, LabSat 4 can output its current time, position, satellite count, etc. in ASCII NMEA format, which you can access through the USB port on the rear panel of the LabSat 4 and view on a PC.

The internal GNSS engine in LabSat 4 is a u-blox engine and you can use the u-center software from u-blox to view the output NMEA.

  1. Download and install the LabSat 4 PC Comms Driver.
  2. Connect LabSat 4 to the computer with the USB-A to USB-B cable (RLCAB042).
  3. Right-click on the the Start menu on the laptop and select Device Manager.
  4. Open the Ports (COM & LPT) dropdown menu.
  5. Note the COM Port of the device labelled Silicon Labs.
  6. Open the u-center software application.
  7. Click Receiver > Connection and select the COM Port you noted in the Device Manager.
  8. Click Receiver > Baudrate and select 115200.
  9. Click View > Text Console to view the incoming NMEA data.

We are using Tera Term in this example.

When you are connecting to a Terminal Software to view the NMEA data, it is important that you choose the correct options.

  1. Download and install the LabSat 4 PC Comms Driver.
  2. Connect LabSat 4 to the computer with the USB-A to USB-B cable (RLCAB042).
  3. Open the terminal software.
  4. Click Serial and select Silicon Labs.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Setup > Serial Port
  7. Next to Speed, select 115200 under the dropdown list.
  8. Click New Setting to set the speed.

    The NMEA data will now be displayed in the window.
