What is AMS Distance?

Updated on Mar 4, 2026

AMS Distance is a channel calculated within our VBOX Test Suite Software when conducting Brake Speed or Brake Trigger tests using a VBOX.

It calculates a theoretical braking distance if the vehicle was to decelerate at the Mean Fully Developed Deceleration (MFDD) for 100% of the brake stop. It is calculated by the following formula:

AMS Distance (m) = (100% MFDD speed (m/s)²) / (2 * MFDD)
