Configuring the MIM Input to VBOX Data Loggers

Updated on Mar 4, 2026

Click on the heading below that is relevant for your setup to se the steps for configuring the MIM input to the datalogger:

When a MIM is connected to a VBOX and in Racelogic Mode, you can configure the input channels in the VBOX Setup Software.

  1. Connect the MIM to the VBOX with the RLCAB005-C cable between the DATA1/DATA2 port on the MIM and the RLCAN port on VBOX 4.
  2. Make sure that the VBOX is powered and connected to the PC.
  3. Run the VBOX Setup software.
  4. Connect VBOX Setup to the relevant COM port.
  5. Open the Channel Setup menu.

The connected modules will appear in the list under Modules where you can select the channels you want to log.

Channels set to be logged can also be selected in the MFD menu to be displayed on a connected MFD Touch display.

Click on a channel to see the configurations for it and make relevant edits.

When a MIM is connected to a VBOX and in Racelogic Mode, you can configure the input channels in the VBOX Setup Software.

  1. Connect the MIM to the VBOX with the RLCAB005-C cable between the DATA1/DATA2 port on the MIM and the CAN port on VBOX 3i.
  2. Make sure that the VBOX is powered and connected to the PC.
  3. Connect VBOX Setup to the relevant COM port and open the Channel Config menu.

The connected modules will appear in the list under Modules where you can select the channels you want to log.

The MIM can be configured to run in a Standalone CAN Bus mode using a RLVBCAB01 cable and the VBOX Setup software.

To ensure the MIM has the correct settings for the Video VBOX and VBOX Video HD2 units, you may have to load the correct settings into the MIM using VBOX Setup software. Load in the MIMVideo.rms configuration file VBOX Automotive website.

  1. Connect the DATA1 socket on the MIM to a PC with the RLVBCAB01 cable.
  2. Power up the MIM by connecting a suitable 12 V power source, this can be done using the RLCAB005C or RLCAB090-C when connected to a powered Video VBOX unit.
  3. Run the VBOX Setup software, available from the VBOX Automotive website.
  4. Select the correct COM port that the MIM is connected to (check the device manager to confirm).
  5. Make the required changes and click the Write to Unit button.

The Channel Name and Units can be changed for each of the input channels and a scale and offset can also be applied to selected input channels. On the Digital input channels there are further options to optimise the input.

When a MIM01 is connected to a VBOX Mini, the VBOX Mini will automatically log all of the input channels.

Each of the input channels has configuration attributes that can be configured through the VBOX Mini. Changing the Name, Units and Scale etc for a channel is not required but makes the logged data much easier to understand. For the digital input channels setting the correct mode and other attributes should be done to ensure coherent data.
