Occasionally Racelogic will release new versions of the firmware (internal code) for the VBOX Video HD2 units.
Load the new firmware onto the VBOX HD2 unit by using an SD card or a USB stick.
Upgrading the VBOX unit's firmware:
- Download the latest .vvhfw file here.
- Place the .vvhfw file on the root directory of an SD card or USB stick (not in the media or any other folder).
- Power up the VBOX Video HD2 unit.
- Load the SD card or USB stick into the front panel.
- The HD2 will beep twice when the upgrade is complete
(this process may take up to 5 minutes).
Notes:
- The firmware file will be removed from the memory storage when it is installed on the unit.
- If you have an HD2 unit that is compatible with the RLACS329 cameras, you may need to upgrade the firmware to use these cameras. You must make sure that the cameras are not connected during this firmware upgrade process. You can connect the cameras when the upgrade has been completed and the VBOX unit has rebooted. If you are already using the cameras, you do not need to disconnect them during an upgrade.
You can find more information about camera compatibility here.
If you are using an OLED display, you may need to upgrade the display after you have loaded the new VBOX Video firmware.
Click here for information on how to upgrade your display.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Upgrading to the latest firmware will change the WiFi name (SSID) of the VBOX Video from VBoxVideo_[serial no] to VVH [serial no]. The password will also be reset to VVH [serial no].
Some features in the preview app and setup software may not function correctly until
the VBOX Video is using the latest firmware version
You can find information about how to set the Wi-Fi password here.
Camera Updates
When the VBOX Video has been upgraded to the latest firmware, an update will also be applied to all cameras connected to the unit. This update will take place automatically during the firmware upgrade. If no cameras are connected at this time, the upgrade will be applied the first time the unit is powered with cameras connected following the firmware update. Each camera will be updated individually via the port it is connected to.
When the camera update is being applied it will take longer than usual for the VBOX Video to boot and be ready for logging.
Changes to the Bluetooth Start/Stop logging switch
In situations where there are multiple HD2 units in close proximity, (for example a busy pit garage, driver experience companies etc.) in order to eliminate any potential confusion when pairing devices, Racelogic have changed the way the logging switch pairs with the HD2.
The pairing of the Bluetooth logging switch has now been changed to include the Bluetooth buttons MAC code, its own unique identifier, which is individual to that particular switch. This ensures that in busy areas, there can be no confusion or accidental pairing to an incorrect unit.
In order to pair the switch with the HD2, all Bluetooth logging buttons will be shipped with an SD card, containing the unique pairing file for that button*. Simply boot up the HD2, pop the SD card in the slot, and once complete (this will take just a few seconds), power cycle the unit and the HD2 and Bluetooth switch are now able to be paired.
Pairing the button is done in the same way as in previous versions. Press the ‘Record button’, the record LED will then flash orange while searching, then single flash green once paired.
Customers that currently have a Bluetooth logging switch will need to obtain a pairing file from Racelogic when upgrading to Firmware version 1.2.45. To do this, please remove the rear cover of the Bluetooth switch, you should then see on the inside of the rear cover, a 12 digit code written on a silver sticker (MAC Code), as seen below:
Please email this code along with a request for a Bluetooth switch pairing file to support@racelogic.co.uk or give us a call and we can quickly and easily make a file and send this via email.
*NOTE –Please ensure you keep a backup of this file as once loaded into the HD2 it is deleted off of the SD card. Should you need a replacement file for any reason, please contact support.
Occasionally, Racelogic releases new versions of the track map database to introduce new circuit maps and start/finish lines and update older tracks with new layouts.
The track map database stored in the VBOX Video HD2 updates in a Firmware Upgrade. However, you can also update the database manually.
You can see which version of the Track Map Database you are currently using by checking Tracks Database information in the header in a .VBO files from your unit.
Update your VBOX Video HD2 with the latest track database by using the following procedure:
- Download the latest track database file by clicking on the Download button in the Video VBOX HD2 tile.
- Place the Database_Hd.vvhdb file in the root directory of an SD card (not in the media or any other folder).
- Power up the VBOX Video HD2 unit.
- Load the SD card into the front panel.
- The device will beep twice when the upgrade is complete (the process may take up to 5 minutes).
- Turn the device off and on again to complete the update.
Click the image below to view the latest tracklist.
A Scene is the setup file (.vvhsn) which defines the layout of the graphical overlay and sets the system parameters such as logging conditions, CAN channels, lap-timing information, etc. There is a default scene included within the HD2 firmware, this will always remain stored on the units memory and can be loaded at any time using an OLED display. VBOX Video Software (Windows, macOS) can be used to create a new scene with full graphical overlay user configurability.
To upload a new scene file (.vvhsn) to a VBOX Video HD2 unit, please follow the instructions below:
- Power up the VBOX Video HD2 unit with the cameras connected and without the SD card or USB stick inserted.
- Ensure the .vvhsn file(s) is located within the root directory of the SD card or USB stick (not in the media or any other folder).
- Load the SD card or USB stick into the front panel - the OK LED will flash green fast as the scene is loaded.
- The HD2 will double beep when the upgrade is complete - the OK LED will change to solid green.
- The new scene file will now be installed within your VBOX Video HD2 unit.
- To preview the new scene, the easiest method is to use the Camera Preview App.
Notes:
- It is possible to load up to 8 scene files to the unit for selection with an OLED Display. If more than 1 scene file is loaded and you don't have access to a display, the first scene alphabetically will be used by the unit. More information on this is available here.
- The scene file(s) will be removed from the memory storage when installed to the unit.
IMPORTANT
Scenes cannot be named as 'default'.
